Artist statement:
I have Guatemalan blood running through my veins actually. I was born Los Angeles, but my parents and Grandparents and beyond are full-blooded Guatemalans. I've been to my homeland country twice, I would go more, but I don't have the time to travel a lot at my age just yet. The Spanish did come to Guatemala and married the locals, but from what I've been told not a single person from my family was ever Spanish. My family and I are original Guatemalans. I drew this picture base off the center of the flag of Guatemala. It respresents the spirit and our freedom of my country gained from the Spanish. This project represents my fear, my birth, what I enjoy, what I'm like, and my imagination. These are things that I do take account from day to day.Especially with the fire on top, it represents a spark, that if I'm motivated enough to do something, I'll get it done and right. The texture on the canvas was a bit rough so that was a bit of an obvious. I mostly used tint because of the limited supplies I had offered to me. I also just used mostly primary colors in this project as well.
